CrITERIA is based on comparative, collaborative research using real situation data from case study areas in each of the participating countries.

Such areas have already been identified in Greece and Italy where data on Cr(VI) in water exist.

These, are further monitored, evaluated and compared to potentially affected water bodies in Cyprus, Turkey, Jordan and Oman within the same time frame from 2017 to 2019. The study areas of CrITERIA not only follow a parallel trend to the Tethyan Suture Zones that structurally define locations of ophiolite occurrences but also are located along a climate gradient from wet- temperate to dry-arid conditions that potentially affect water quality characteristics.
